How to Stop an iPhone® Running Slow
iPhone® running slow? We’ve noticed that iPhone users often complain that their devices slow down significantly after a year of use. Rather than rushing to buy a new iPhone immediately, you may be able to save yourself some time and money by following some simple tips to get your iPhone back up to speed.
A handful of hacks can get your iPhone running like new. As with other devices such as laptops and tablets you can speed up your iPhone by:
- Clearing the cache
- Deleting unused files
- Closing background applications
- Checking and installing updates
- Resetting your device
Clearing the cache
You should definitely try this if your iPhone is slowest when surfing the internet. The cashe is a storage area for temporary files. It is intended to make a device, browser, or app run more efficiently. When there are too many files in the cache, however, the effect can be counterproductive. To clear the cache on an iPhone and see if this speeds things up, go to settings, then safari, and then select the option to clear history and website data.
Deleting unused files
Like other devices, your iPhone may be running slow if you lack storage space. You should have some in reserve for your device to perform optimally. You can solve a storage space issue by deleting and or backing up photos and videos. Or remove an app or two that is taking up space on your iPhone. To find out which apps take up most room, navigate through settings, then storage, and then manage storage. You may be able to afford to get rid of apps that you do not use often.
Closing background applications
If your iPhone is trying to do too many things at once, this can cause it to run slow and it can drain the battery, too. Make it a habit to close an app before switching to another. To close apps at any time, navigate through the home button and then swipe up to close apps you are not currently using.
Checking and installing updates
Apple® keeps updating its operating systems to provide security benefits and keep your device as efficient as possible. Updating to the latest version of your operating system can solve the problem of an iPhone running slow. It is recommended that you back up your data before doing this. To check for the latest update and install it, hit settings, general, software updates, and then download and install.
Resetting your device
This might be a near-to-last-resort. It could be better than buying a new device. By resetting your settings, you can still have access to your data and contacts. Note, however, that you may lose passwords. To reset your device go through settings, general, and then choose to reset all settings.
Try these steps if your iPhone is running slow. They can save you purchasing a new device and help you get more out of your iPhone.
